Annotations Upon The Holy Bible

by

Matthew Poole

Also commonly known as “Matthew Poole’s Commentary on the Bible.”

Matthew Poole’s commentaries, both hard print and electronic text, are one of the most popular and desired Bible study tools of all similar works.  Sadly, his works for computer viewing and reference, have historically been guarded and exclusive to various “programed” libraries.  Here added is the Old Testament portion of Poole’s commentary.  With this update, the entire Bible commentary is now available in one PDF file.  Previously it contained only the New Testament portion. If you have previously downloaded this work, you will want to delete it and download the current file. Please share (tell others) and enjoy as you please.

A portion of
ANNALS OF THE POOR

the portion being
A NEGRO SERVANT

by

Legh Richmond
1772 - 1827

This extract is compiled and published with the full understanding that by today’s standards, (called “political correctness”) it will surely be found by some to be offensive in its grammar, content and terms used. Be reminded, it is written in the acceptable and proper terms of its time in the early 1800s.

The challenge we issue with its publication is for the reader to find and see the glory of God in the salvation of his elect. When Moses’ asked God to show him his glory, God declared his ‘goodness’ to be his glory. He proceeded by emphatically declaring that he will show mercy to a people. He is determined that not all men will perish. This story is a demonstration of his purpose and determination to have a whole multitude of people just like his Son, The Lord Jesus Christ.

William, The Negro Servant, was taken by drunken sailors from his homeland, transported, and sold as a slave in Jamaica. But what those merchandisers of men intended for evil, God intended for good.

The true purpose of God for William was;

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. (Isaiah 43:2-4)

The safety and welfare of William was sure;

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. (John 10:27-29)

“Goot friends and bredren in Christ Jesus, God bless you all, and bring you to heaven at de last."—William (The Negro Servant)

The Christian Remembrancer;

or,

Short Reflections

Upon The

Faith, Life, and Conduct

Of

A Real Christian.

by

AMBROSE SERLE, ESQ.

When this book first came to the attention of Grace-eBooks.com, it was immediately evident that Christ was on every page of it's contents, and in virtually every chapter title. That not only means the word Christ, but the person of Christ. If you are a lover of Christ and the message of reconciliation and redemption in Him, you will find this one of the most assuring and easily read e-books on the site. Come and see what author Ambrose Serle thinks of Christ. You won't be disappointed.

Ambrose Serle (1742–1812) was an English civil servant, diarist and writer of Christian prose and hymns as well as the book titled The Christian Remembrancer here being posted.

His “The American Journal of Ambrose Serle, Secretary to Lord Howe 1776-1778” is a primary source in the history of the American Revolution. The Lord Howe concerned was Richard Howe, 1st Earl Howe.

Ambrose Serle was the private secretary to the British general William Howe. He was the author of Americans Against Liberty a pamphlet published anonymously that defends the British Empire as a rightful and just government. It also criticizes the American colonists as enemies of the British public and opponents of the freedoms provided by Great Britain. He believed the colonists' complaints against King George III were unimportant and were not a strong enough reason to revolt against the government. He thought that the colonies harmed England financially, but Britain had little choice but to govern and protect them.

He was a strong loyalist and supported England greatly. His pamphlet writings of finances influenced the speeches of Lord North, an influential representative in Parliament, and an important figure for both sides in the revolution. While the pamphlets effects were less noticeable with the patriots, they were there just the same.

Those things said, please do not let them influence your resolve to read this work. Forgive him, whatever your persuasion, and read on.

To my knowledge, it is the only edited, formatted text-based copy of the book available. Archaic words have been converted to modern language.
